In the 1940’s, GP baby albums became a most treasured keepsake. While fathers were at war, mothers were able to record photos of their children as they grew. During that period, GP also manufactured “Life in the Service” diaries for all branches of the service. These bindery capabilities were a natural for leading into the wedding album business when the troops came home and married their sweethearts.

In the 1950’s, Ray Kalwajtys created the Golden Hinge binding system. Its unlimited add-on capability has helped photographers develop the profitable market of repeat business. It remains the industry standard today. After the patent expired in the late 1960’s, many companies attempted to duplicate this original hinged album.

Today, Ron Kalwajtys acts as the President of GP Albums L.L.C. As the oldest child of the founder, Ron has been involved in the album business since the early 1950’s. There have been three generations of The Kalwajtys Family active in the album business to date. Two generations are still very active in the day to day operations. As a family owned and operated business, GP understands the importance of preserving memories, whether they are captured digitally or on film.
